Jane Eyre Project Ideas.

So, I was thinking about doing something with the dreams. I think I'm going to analyze one of Jane's dreams and talk about how it fits into the plot and story line of the book.

Little Brother, chapters 17&18

Marcus and Ange decide to run away with Masha. I think that at the current point in hte story, it is kind of a good idea. That is because with the story about the prison in the middle of the bay, and about Marcus being M1k3y, he is a dead man in the eyes of the police and, more specifically, the DHS. To Marcus, running away is the only way to stay out of prison and possibly alive. The only thing that makes him hesitant is that he doesn't want his parents to have to go through him not comming home again. That's a reasonable reason to not go because I would be worried to death if my child didn't come home, even if i knew what happened to him before.

Little Brother, chapters 15&16

M1k3y decided to hold a prss confrence inside the game "Clockwork Plunder" because h didn't wnat to give away his identity by holding one in person. I think that this is a really good idea. That way, Marcus can have Ange with him, and he can remain unknown to th police and espically the DHS. I think that during the press confrence, even though he may have said them before, he made some good points. I liked how he said that the government doesn't have his consent, and th a democracy is when the government works to the consent of the people. I found it interesting that he let other players answer some of the questions for him, but I also think that that was part of the reason he held it on Clockwork Plunder. The headlines and what the news reporters were saying the next day was bad. The reporter on Fox News said that the Xnetters could be called "Cal-Quaeda" because they do terrorists' work on the homefront. I completely disagree with that statement. They aren't terrorists. They are jamming the system to show how bad it is and to protest. If they were terrorists, then they would do something mor drastic. I think that since the kids are only confusing and conjesting the system and checkpoints, then its more dissent than terrorism.
I was happy to find out that Daryl was not dead. I think that Marcus was caught off guard with this news and decided to tell his parents everything that really happened to him after the bombing. That was a wise decision. Even though it could potentially get him into HUGE trouble, he was one step closer to getting the DHS out of San Francisco.

Little Brother, chapters 13&14

Marcus, as M1k3y, started to make blogs about everything the newspapers got wrong, starting with the concert. It was originally Ange's idea, because everyone was emailing M1k3y  about it. I think it was a good idea. If you want people to know the truth, you have to put it out there. No one who wasn't there will know the truth unless it is out there for someone to find. I also think that it was kind of a good thing that people who didn't have Xboxes or Xnet could get on it and read about what actually happened in the park that night. Another good and bad thing is that the news about the Xnet was all over the radio and news. It was good because people could access it and read about what actually happened, but it was bad because the DHS was all over how to track down who started it and the ring leader M1k3y. Seeing as Marcus was already being tracked by the DHS, the fact that he was M1k3y too didn't really help him stay out of trouble.

Marcus got suspended. I think it was kind of a good thing, because he got suspended trying to stand up for what he believed in. In social studies, the teacher was talking about how the concert in the park was a riot and how the people at the concert acted like terrorists because they didnt disprse when they wer instructed to and they created fear. I disagree, because the people were just trying to have a good time listening to music until the police showed up. Also, I agree with Marcus because he said that America was for dissent and that it was wrong to have to government controling what they chant about.

Little Brother, chapter 12

The DHS and SFPD are crazy. The illegal concert in the park was not a riot. It was a bunch of kids getting together to listen to music and protest a little bit. People who weren't there saw it as an attack on the police when they showed up. The papers said that the people at the concert attacked the police when they were asked to disperse. I object to that. I think it was wrong for the government to gass all thoes innocent people. The people in the park were there to listen to the music. There were children as young as 10 years old there, and the government shouldn't put innocent people, espically children, in danger by gassing a crowd and then arresting most of the people that were there.
There really wasn't anything bad going on at the concert. The only thing happening was a bunch of sweaty kids dancing to music in a park. Also, some chanting of "TAKE IT BACK!" and "Dont trust anyone over 25!" occured. But since there was no permit, the police decided that the crowd would be dangerous. I think that they should've at least given the people a warning before charging, gassing, and arresting them. The government basically just took away their First Amendment right to gather peacefully. It's not like anyone was getting hurt from the concert, so the police shouldn't have arrested anyone, or even gassed anyone. It was definately not a riot.

Little Brother, chapter 11

At the key signing party, Marcus met a lot of new people, including Ange. Ange is a friend of Jolu who was the first one to make a key, and the only one to go down to the shore to kill the laptop with Marcus. I think that if he hadn't met her, he wouldn't have heard about the concert "Dont trust anyone over 25."
Later in school, someone wrote the slogan on the board in Marcus's social studies class. This provokeed a discussion about the government and civil rights movements and such. Marcus brought up the point that the government should do what the people want it to do. He read something from the Declaration of Independence that stated that the people have the right to change or overthrow the government if they don't like what's happening. I totally agree with this statement. That is because the government is supposed to be "for the people, by the people" and it cant be if the people don't like what it's doing. The whole thing with the government tracking you and questioning people about where they were and why they were there is not right. I think it's good that the Xnetters are doing something so help stop it, even if it does slow things down. I think that they jam to confuse the DHS and to make it so people will protest the checkpoints more. If more people protest, then it is more likely that they get shut down and survelliance goes back to normal.

Little Brither, chapters 9&10

The Xnet had been infultrated by the DHS. I think that this is a bad thing for Marcus and all of the Xnetters. That is because the Xnet has things that the DHS shouldn't be seeing, like blogs about jamming the checkpoints all over the city. Because the DHS infultrated the Xnet, Marcus and Jolu decided to have a "key signing party." I think that was a good idea. When the people used their crypto keys, then no one could read what one person sent to the other person. This is safer in the sense that when people were sending messages about jamming and whatnot, then the DHS wouldn't be able to figure out what they are saying to eachother. I suppose this is good, but also semi-bad because then the DHS would believe that they have something to hide and they would track that person more and be even more suspicious of them.

Little Brother, chapters 7&8

The police shouldn't track where people are going. I think that tracking people, even if it is for "the safety of the city", is just wrong. The government shouldn't be able to track you, espically without your knowledge. But the entire city of San Fransisco is being tracked by debit cards, fast passes, and other such items used for faster transportation. Marcus was cornered by a couple of cops shortly after they started tracking people. He was being questioned for "abnormal trasportation patterns." I find this odd because sometimes people have to go somewhere they usually don't go, and tracking them makes it look like they have something sketchy to do, or something to hide.
Marcus and his dad begin to butt heads when the police bring Marcus home. I have to agree with Marcus when he says the the government tracking you is unnecessary, unwanted, and kind of ridiculous. His dad disagrees and says that it is his duty to be pulled over once or twice if it keeps the city safer. Personally, I would be really annoyed at the police and government if they decided it was okay to track everyone everywhere. Also, it isn't okay for them to have checkpoints outside nearly every building and cameras that try to identify who are by analyzing how you walk. The only disadvantage the government would see to all this technology is that most of it is easy to fool if you know the right way to trick it, or if you have the right equipment to confuse it. The only good thing about it is that it helps to take down drugdealers, adulterers, and other criminals.

Little Brother, chapters 5&6

Daryl is still missing. I think that it was hard for Marcus to lie about the fact that he wasn't with daryl when the bomb went off. If Marcus hadn't lied, then his parents would've know something was wrong and that he wasn't quarantined in Oakland with Van and Jolu for five days. I think that Daryl was kept in the prison because he was injured, but I think that Marcus thought that he could be dead because the DHS hadn't bothered to bring him with them when they tried to get him help.
Marcus later discovers that his laptop(that he built himself) has been tampered with. I don't think his paranoia is unreasonable because he was a major suspect of the DHS. I think that he was a suspect because he had lots of odd things in his pockets and passwords on his phone. If he had just cooperated at first and gave the DHS his passwords, then he wouldn't have been bugged. I think it was a good thing that he was bugged though. That is because if he hadn't been bugged, then he never would've set up th Xnet. Also, he never would've become M1k3y.
I think that marcus's welcome back to school was crazy. It was crazy because all the people at the school had thought that he was dead. Now that he is back, he has to sign a form saying that it is okay for the school to have cameras in every single classroom. Personally, I think that this is INSANE. That is because teenagers aren't going to do anything super major like a terrorist attack, but some rather stupid people think that having cameras is suddenly going to make everyone and everything safe again. That is just not the way things work.

Little Brother, chapters 3&4.

Marcus and his friends get picked up by the DHS. They think that the terrorists might be kidnapping them because they get bagged and handcuffed. I think that the DHS has no right to treat innocent people this way, espically because when they get released, the families will start asking questions about where they were. When Marcus and his friends were brought to the prison, no one knew where they were. Also, Severe Haircut Lady begins to interrogate everyone about who atteacked the bridge and how they did it. Marcus decided that if he ever wanted to get out, then he would give them his passwords and such. This was wise on his part because it helped him get home. The bad part was that the DHS was holding them illegally and the fact that they were threatening him with no food did not help. I think that if i were in Marcus's position, then i would cooperate and give them the passwords. It would help me get home to may parents sooner and out of the prison that i had no place being in at all in the first place. The DHS is wrong to just pick up random people because they are innocent and have done nothing wrong. the DHS is only bringing the people to prison to give the government the idea that they have a lead on who caused the terrorist attack. I think this is wrong because innocent people should not be taken prisoner by their own government.

Little Brother, chapters 1&2

Marcus Yallow is a good guy. Even though he hacks the school computers, he is doing it so he can have some privacy and freedom. I think that he is just trying to have fun when he sneaks around school disabling trackers so he can go play a game with his friends. I think that the book is kind of boring so far. Until the bomb goes off at the end of chapter 2, you only learn about how Marcus(w1n5t0n) is a hacker who gets into trouble, who his friends are, and how Charles and Mr. Benson try to get him into trouble as much as possible. I also think that all the stuff about the security is kind of pointless because it doesn't really pose a huge problem to Marcus. This is because he know how to fool it into thinking that he isn't sneaking out of school and he knows how to destroy the trackers. I like how the bombing is described as the world changing forever. I want to see how the world changes.

TKAM, again.

The trial in the movie was very different from the book, but I think it was easier to understand the one from the movie. In the movie, you can see how nervous Mayella is when she is testifying. You can also see how Mr. Ewell is sort of disgusted by Mayella when Tom Robinson is testifying. I think that Mayella is so nervous whilst testifying because she knows that she's lying and that an innocent man will most likely be killed because of her embarassment. When the verdict was given at the end of the trial scene, Tom was crushed. I think that because Atticus was his lawyer, he actually believed that he might have won. Although he should hav ewon, I wasn't shocked that he didn't. That's because he is a black man and Mayella is a white female, eventhough she is in the Ewell family(the lowest white family in Maycomb) she is still a white woman.

To Kill A Mockingbird, The Movie.

The movie and the book, To Kill A Mockingbird, are quite different. The book says that Scout was the one to find all the stuff in the knot in the tree, but the movie shows Jem finding all of it. I think that when Atticus shoots the mad dog, he doesn't want to. I think that he doesn't want to show his kids that he is good at shooting because they don't have guns, and he doesn't want them to have guns. When Scout starts talking to Mr. Cunningham in front of the jail, she doesn't know what she's doing, and she feels bad because she thinks that she hurt his feeling. Scout thinks that she hurt his feelings becuase he looked upset. I think that he was upset because he didn't have the courage to kill Tom Robinson anymore. When Scout jumps in front of Atticus, it's kind of like she is saving a mockingbird from being killed. I think that because at the end of the book, when Tom actually gets killed, Mr. Underwood refers to his murder/death as "the senseless slaughter of a songbird" which is basically saying that Tom is a mockingbird.
